Since 2016, ROCANIIRU has been fostering a connection with Gao Ding Shi, an internationally renowned pioneer of wild tea making, through tea journeys to Taiwan.
In recent years, wild tea has been gaining quiet popularity in China and Taiwan. However, wild tea encompasses various forms of production. For instance, most tea gardens maintain a certain level of organization to manage tea trees within specific plots, but Gao’s tea gardens are entirely focused on preserving the natural ecosystem, often resembling a harsh and untamed landscape. This reflects Gao’s philosophy of yielding to nature rather than human intervention, a principle that has remained unchanged since he began his tea-making journey in the late 1980s.
In these mountains, diverse trees and plants coexist with the tea trees. One must navigate through the dense vegetation to reach a single tea tree. The leaves from these sparsely scattered trees are hand-picked at the right time and processed using labor-intensive, traditional tea-making methods that originated from the mainland.
When Gao enters the mountains, he carefully observes the natural ecosystem, showing the modest side of a tea farmer who lives in harmony with tea every day. Yet, when he takes his place at the tea table, he transforms into a tea master, conveying the spirit of tea with deep dedication and focus.
I vividly remember the first time I tasted tea in Gao’s mountain tea room. With each infusion, the vitality of the mountain seemed to take shape, gradually relaxing both body and mind, guiding me into a state of profound tranquility.
In early October, as autumn deepens, we are pleased to have the rare opportunity to host Taka Joseki's first visit to Japan, with the support of the Cultural Promotion Network, at two venues in Hyogo and Kyoto, where you can enjoy the world of Taka Joseki.
In early October, as autumn deepens, we are honored to host this special occasion, supported by the Cultural Promotion Network, featuring Gao Ding Shi’s world at two venues: Hyogo and Kyoto. On October 8-9, we will hold a "Chinese Tea Flow Gathering in Autumn" at "DOKI ROKKO," located on Mount Rokko in Hyogo.
This gathering will not be solely about tea but will also involve Japanese chefs and musicians who share Gao’s values centered around tea, providing an experience that encompasses "food" and "sound," allowing participants to deeply engage with tea.
On October 12, we will host a tea gathering at "Kojitsu Kyo," a tea house in Okazaki, Kyoto, where participants can immerse themselves in the refined and harmonious world of Gao’s tea, experiencing the evolving depth of flavor with each infusion.
