SMALL JAR, Green-glazed, Han Dynasty (206 BCE–220 CE)

This is a green-glazed jar from the Han Dynasty (206 BCE–220 CE). During this period, China witnessed the emergence of true celadon for the first time in its ceramic history, alongside the production of ash-glazed pottery, decorated gray pottery, black pottery, and lead-glazed ceramics. Transitioning from the bronze culture that flourished from the Shang and Zhou dynasties through the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, the Han Dynasty marked a significant technological innovation with the firing of celadon, leading to the creation of ceramics that were both diverse in technique and form.


This piece features a softly curving shoulder and a low mouth, embodying a compact size that is favored in tea rooms.
