The term "Comprador" translates to "broker" in Portuguese. During the Edo period, merchants in Nagasaki formed a guild known as the Konpura-sha, initiating the export of Japanese products through the Dutch East India Company (VOC). Among these exports was the soy sauce bottle commonly referred to as the "Comprador bottle" or "Oranda-bin."

This piece exemplifies the characteristic gray hue and fine, bubbly texture of Hasami ware, crafted from three-pronged ceramic stone. It features a slender neck and a lower bulbous shape, making it a rather rare form among Oranda bottles. The body is adorned with charming floral motifs and underglaze blue LC designs. It is in splendid condition and would make a delightful addition to any collection.
