A Ko-Shigaraki jar from the Muromachi Period, featuring a cypress fence design.
This jar exhibits a slightly thick neck with a double mouth, gracefully swelling from the shoulder to the body, tapering gently towards the base—a quintessential form of traditional pottery. The robust cypress fence motif, boldly rendered with a thick spatula on the shoulder, imparts a sense of strength to this small vessel. The surface of the jar showcases a strikingly white, weathered patina characteristic of ancient Shigaraki ware. Although the rim is chipped, it possesses a rustic charm that evokes an ethereal presence. The base is fashioned in a geta style, and a kiln mark is inscribed on the shoulder.
