室町時代に笏谷石を刳り抜いて作られていたバンドコ（石製火炉）です。同手のものでは、小谷城跡から蓋のない状態のものが出土しています。割れや欠損がありますが、蓋付きの状態で保存され、また各部丁寧に修復されてあります。内部を見ると荒々しいノミ跡が見られますが、一方で、丸い形状に四角の窓を持つ構造はどこか、ノスタルジーを感じる優しい佇まいです。
