The Ifugao people inhabit the mountainous regions of northern Luzon in the Philippines. Luzon is renowned for its rice cultivation and is famous for its stunning terraced fields. During the Edo period, jars traded for Japanese silver were referred to as "Luzon jars," highly valued by tea connoisseurs of the time. This piece, a well-used amber-hued tea basket, was originally crafted as a rice basket.
