This exquisite white-glazed Delft cup, crafted in the 17th to 18th century, exemplifies the artistry of Delftware. Originating during the Age of Exploration, Delft pottery became widely popular in Europe, initially designed for use as ointment jars. However, in Japan, it was revered from the Edo period onward, finding its place in the world of tea ceremony as a cherished vessel for sake and water.

Made from soft-paste porcelain, this piece features a smooth, creamy white surface reminiscent of yogurt, with a tactile quality that invites touch. The play of light and shadow on its surface creates a captivating visual effect. Notably, the interior rim displays a glassy accumulation formed during the firing process, adding to its allure.

This item is part of a rare collection acquired from a local archaeologist during a journey to the Netherlands. It comes with an exceptionally rare wooden lid from the 18th century, enhancing its historical significance.

While a water leakage test conducted overnight showed no issues, please note that due to its age, we cannot guarantee against future leaks. In light of recent circumstances, acquiring Delftware has become increasingly challenging. We invite you to consider adding this remarkable piece to your collection.
