Earthenware lion statue

This is a very rare clay lion dog. It has one upright ear and a three-pronged tail, characteristics seen in ancient lion and lion dogs. With its adorable, soft expression, it may have been created to ward off evil spirits.
I have researched it extensively since I got it, but have not been able to pinpoint its historical background. It is likely an excavated item, and there are signs of careful restoration by restorers in various places.
It is made of earthenware and when you pour a drop of water on it you can smell a strong earthy smell.
This is a magnificent lion statue with few similar examples.
