Pottery fired at the ancient kiln site of Suankhalok in Thailand from the 14th century onwards was imported to Japan from the Momoyama period to the early Edo period, where it was called Song Kuroku and Sunkorok, and is said to have been highly prized by tea masters at the time as tea utensils. Sunkorok produced many works that imitated the celadon and blue and white designs of the Longquan kilns of the Song and Yuan dynasties in China, and mainly produced semi-porcelain clay with grey celadon glaze, iron painting and white makeup. This product is a lidded incense holder with a simple iron painting. The fading and fraying that has occurred over the years gives it a nice character.
