An Italian enamel-painted antique glass cup, 18th–19th century.

A small octagonal glass cup with chamfered facets, its body scattered with floral motifs in red, green, white, and yellow enamel. Though a diminutive piece measuring less than 5cm in height, dots of color appear to float within the clear glass, giving it a charming expression when viewed in the palm of the hand.

The body is marked by vertical ridges so that, when caught by light, each facet reflects differently. A band of red glass encircles the base, subtly tightening the overall effect. The decoration is not finely worked but rustic, as if small grains of colored glass had been applied; it combines the bright brilliance characteristic of Italian antique glass with the gentle irregularities of handwork.

This piece can be enjoyed as a sake cup, a small cup for chilled tea, or as a glass vessel to hold a single small flower. Set among antique pottery and wooden implements, the colored glass’s subtle radiance is beautifully highlighted.

Due to its age, the glass surface shows fine abrasions, air bubbles, slight irregularities from manufacture, and wear to the enamel decoration. There are no significant chips or cracks. Please note these characteristics are consistent with an antique item.
