透彫獅子牡丹文彫刻欄間（近世：16–19世紀）

取り合わせのよいもののたとえに使われる「獅子に牡丹」。
本作は、木の板を透かし彫りにして獅子と牡丹を表現した欄間です。獅子は荒彫りと細彫りを使い分けて毛並みを、牡丹は花弁の凹凸で立体感を出しています。
欄間として、上下の壁や鴨居（かもい）の間に据え付けられ、光や風を通しつつ空間を仕切る役割を果たしていました。小ぶりで品の良い作品です。
