This is a tea bowl of Gaki ware from the Kamakura Period (1185–1333 CE). Gaki ware refers to a type of earthenware characterized by its clay-rich composition, predominantly found in the Kinki region. Crafted from high-quality clay and subjected to a reduction firing process that allows for carbon absorption, the exterior of the vessel exhibits a deep black hue, while the body reveals a subtle ash-gray tone. Both the interior and exterior surfaces are meticulously polished, showcasing a remarkable presence reminiscent of medieval kilns. The condition of this piece is excellent.
