SMALL JAR, Delftware, white-glazed, 3, Dutch Antique, Early Modern Period(16th–19th centuries)

This white Delftware piece from the Age of Exploration was originally crafted as a container for ointments. However, in Japan, it has been cherished since the Edo period as a tea utensil, serving as a cup or mizusashi (water container) for the tea ceremony. Its soft, creamy surface, reminiscent of yogurt, and its comfortable grip, combined with a nuanced expression that captures light and shadow, embody a timeless beauty.

After filling it with water for about an hour, I found no leaks. I believe its size makes it suitable not only as a sake cup but also as a vase for flowers.
