Persimmon Tannin-dyed Antique Boro Bag, Meiji Period (1868-1912 CE)

$1,289

This is a vintage cloth bag made of BORO fabric dyed with persimmon tannin.

BORO fabric has been used for a long time by reusing and repairing available fabrics, passing them down from generation to generation. These fabrics create unique patterns and textures with their patched together pieces of fabric, colors, and weaving techniques, each possessing its own distinct character.

In a time where sustainability is increasingly emphasized while new products continue to be consumed rapidly, BORO represents the beauty of the cycle of objects and stories, and the spirit of self-repair. Today, it is also valued as an art form in itself.

Through generations of use and repair, this BORO fabric has developed a wonderful atmosphere. It can be used for daily tea practice or as a chabu-dai (tea cloth) for traveling tea ceremonies.
