A white-glazed tea bowl dating from the Song to Yuan dynasties.

This bowl has a slightly outward-flared rim and a low, sturdy foot. Its diameter is approximately 14.5cm, a size entirely appropriate for use as a tea bowl.

The glaze is not bluish-white but a soft white ranging from milky to ivory. Beneath the white glaze there is fine crazing, with iron spots, areas of glaze thinning, and small stone-induced pits appearing here and there. The slightly irregular surface conveys a rustic strength characteristic of regional kilns of the Song–Yuan period.

A circular step within the well forms a quiet central reserve. Wheel-throwing marks remain on both the interior and exterior, and the rim and body show slight irregularities. Around the foot the clay is left exposed, clearly revealing the natural texture of the clay and traces of firing.

There is glaze loss at the rim and some rubbing and minor scratches on the interior, but no significant damage.
The soft tone of the white glaze and the bowl’s rustic clay character give this tea bowl its particular charm.
