The bowl from the Xingzhou kiln, crafted in white porcelain with a single handle, stands as one of the most distinguished examples of Tang Dynasty white ceramics (618-907 CE). Utilizing a clay body with minimal iron content, it achieves a translucent finish through the application of a uniform white glaze. This single-handled bowl employs similar techniques, with the foot ring left unglazed, allowing the texture of the clay to remain intact. Characterized by its refined silhouette and gentle milky-white glaze, it exudes a serene beauty.
Located near Neiqiu County in Hebei Province, China, the Xingzhou kiln flourished during the Tang Dynasty (7th to 9th centuries). It is said that its white porcelain significantly influenced the development of the Ding kiln white porcelain in the Song Dynasty.
This white porcelain bowl features a flared rim and a stable foot, embodying the quintessential form of a single-handled bowl. Its round handle is distinctive, combining both functionality and decorative appeal.
The white porcelain from the Xingzhou kiln possesses a warm hue with a slight yellowish tint, and the texture of the glaze is smooth and elegant. The glaze on this piece is exceptionally well-preserved, reflecting light softly and creating a tranquil interplay of shadows.
