LARGE SPOUTED BOWL, Ko-Tokoname, Heian–Kamakura Period (794–1333 CE)

This large spouted bowl, crafted in the ancient style of Ko-Tokoname during the Heian to Kamakura periods (794–1333 CE), features a raised foot. Unlike typical spouted bowls from Tokoname, this piece does not serve as a mortar; rather, it was utilized for various purposes, including as a cooking vessel or a lid for a sutra container. Its austere and poised presence reflects the refined aesthetic of the Heian period. This piece could also be elegantly repurposed as a hibachi.
