A bowl-shaped earthenware vessel made of reddish clay from the Yayoi period. It has a shallow, open form; traces of shaping and finishing remain on both the interior and exterior, and the clay contains fine grains of sand.

During the Yayoi period, a variety of earthenware forms—storage jars, pots, high‑footed dishes, and bowls—were produced to suit different functions. Bowl-shaped pottery has been recovered from archaeological sites throughout the country and is believed to have been used in daily life for serving and portioning food.

Yayoi pottery is generally less decorated than Jomon pottery, often favoring simple forms suited to shape and function. This example likewise bears no ornament, presenting an unadorned bowl of reddish-brown clay with a low, open profile.

The rim is partially missing, resulting in an irregular profile. The base bears an old crack, and soil deposits and discoloration are evident on both the interior and exterior.

Measuring only about 4 cm high with a diameter of approximately 10.5 cm, this small bowl-shaped earthenware from the Yayoi period can be appreciated for its form and natural clay surface.
