SAGGER JAR, Ko-Shigaraki, Muromachi Period（1336–1573CE）

This piece is a sagger from the Ko-Shigaraki kiln, where two saggers fused together in the kiln, resulting in the upper sagger tearing and taking on the form of a jar.
Although Shigaraki clay is not typically suitable for water retention, the lower sagger miraculously holds water, allowing the crack in the upper sagger to serve as an opening for use as a flower vase. (It has been tested with water for 24 hours.)

The presence of this piece evokes a powerful sense of the swirling fire within the kiln. Its form, reminiscent of wildflowers, is truly unique and seldom found elsewhere.
