Sale price¥35,000 JPY

This bronze covered box, with its weathered and rusted patina, exudes a profound sense of history. The interior is coated with lime, indicative of its use as a container for kinma, a substance that became popular in Southeast Asia around the 11th century. Similar artifacts have been unearthed from Khmer-era sites in Cambodia. This piece is likely from the Sukhothai period (13th–16th centuries). The finial resembling a jewel and its elegant form have led to its identification in Japanese antique literature as a relic container. The lid is removable, allowing it to serve as a versatile vessel or even as an incense holder, enhancing its functionality and charm.
