CHARCOAL BRAZIER, Sahari, with rain and dragon design and bat-shaped handle, kanaya gorōsaburō zō, Edo Period(1603–1867CE)
This is a charcoal brazier crafted by the renowned artisan Kanaya Gorōsaburō. Sahari, a term referring to an alloy primarily composed of copper, tin, silver, and lead, has been widely used since ancient times across China, Korea, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, eventually making its way to Japan. This particular piece is made of a copper and silver alloy known as shibuichi, showcasing a rich, deep yellowish hue with a refined texture.
The body features an intricately carved design of a rain dragon, complemented by bat-shaped handles. It is in excellent condition, making it suitable for use as a hanging vessel for an extended period. However, the condition of the box is not as favorable.
