STONE OIL LAMP, Middle Ages(12th–16th centuries)

This stone oil lamp was unearthed in the Middle East and dates from the 11th to the 14th century.

The surface is adorned with abstract floral motifs, while the sides feature carvings of figures facing each other. Unlike pottery, stone oil lamps were durable, making them valuable items in their time.

After centuries of use, the corners have softened, revealing the textured quality of the stone. While it can still function as an oil lamp, it also serves beautifully as a vessel for calligraphy water drops or floral arrangements.
