In recent years, Ban Chiang pottery has gained significant recognition in Japan. This particular piece features intricate incised designs meticulously carved into the bottom of the vessel. While the dating and stylistic evolution of this type of pottery remain somewhat elusive, the hard-fired, reddish clay and the decorative motifs rendered in such incised lines suggest that it was created during the early Ban Chiang period, around the first millennium BCE.
